PITTSBURGH — Noah Whittington never set foot on the Lucas Oil Stadium turf for testing in Indianapolis. A toe injury kept him off the field and out of the 40. In a Draft process built on measurables, that’s usually the kind of thing that buries a prospect.

PITTSBURGH — Oregon TE Kenyon Sadiq heads into the 2026 NFL Draft as the most electrifying player at his position.

Sadiq arrived at the NFL Combine in February, projected as a fringe first-round prospect.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound TE ran a position-record 4.39 40-yard dash and launched himself onto every team’s first-round Draft board.

Scouts don’t get surprised often. Sadiq surprised them.

INDIANAPOLIS — The stopwatch never lies. It amplifies. For nine Oregon prospects invited to the 2026 NFL Combine, it’s about shaping their NFL futures in a Draft class ESPN projects as strong at offensive tackle and defensive back.

The Combine is more than a workout; it’s a job interview under the brightest lights. A chance to get NFL dreams validated and get Draft stock elevated.

• Starting on Feb. 23 in meeting rooms at Lucas Oil Stadium, 319 prospects will try to reshape their draft stock before the NFL Draft in April.

EUGENE — Former Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola is reportedly joining the Ducks. And Oregon fans have a lot to say about it, for and against!

The college and pro football world beyond Duck Nation has been analyzing Raiola a lot longer. And what they’ve been saying in recent years isn’t always pretty.

Two sets of facts I’ll ask Oregon fans to remember, right off the top:

• Dante Moore makes his own choice: A transfer who lost 9 games in two seasons at Nebraska without a whiff of the CFP won’t be the reason Moore stays at Oregon or goes pro. If Moore opts for the NFL, it’ll be about Moore’s standing in the draft class, not about the transfer kid with the broken leg from the 10th-place team in the conference.

• Raiola has potential, but he’s not Mahomes: Raiola’s upside includes 4,819 pass yards, 31 TDs, and 17 INTs. He won 13 games in 22 starts before a broken fibula in 2025. On the downside, he hasn’t been a game-changer, and he doesn’t make plays with his legs. In two seasons at Nebraska, -152 rush yards, 54 sacks, and ZERO rush TDs.

MIAMI GARDENS — All gas, no brakes to the Orange Bowl CFP Quarterfinal vs. Texas Tech!

Oregon’s 51-34 first-round CFP dismantling of JMU felt like the weight of a decade lifted. The weight of all the years since the Ducks’ last playoff win. And maybe the weight of all the years of plug & play transfer QBs at Oregon.

Hard to believe, but the Ducks hadn’t won a playoff game since the Rose Bowl following the 2014 season.

After those same 10-plus years, QB1 Dante Moore also delivered the in-house QB development success story Duck Nation has been waiting for since the Marcus Mariota era gave way to more than a decade of plug & play transfer QBs.

Back on New Year’s Day of 2015, Mariota walked into the Pasadena sunset and rolled Florida State in a 59-20 avalanche.

Against JMU in Oregon’s 2025 CFP opener, we saw Moore confirm the Ducks’ in-house QB development pipeline is back!

After waiting his turn behind Dillon Gabriel in 2024, the redshirt sophomore didn’t just step in; he took ownership.

“I think we have the best QB in college football,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said, after Moore led Oregon to an overtime win at the Penn State “Whiteout” back in September.

Duck Nation hasn’t heard that kind of talk about an Oregon QB since Mariota’s Heisman season. No disrespect to Justin Herbert, since it’s become abundantly clear how much disservice a former Oregon coaching staff did to all parties involved by making Herbert’s arm talent the best-kept secret in college football until his Rookie of the Year season with the 2020 Los Angeles Chargers.

MIAMI GARDENS — Oregon’s real-deal CFP moment takes the Ducks to a New Year’s Day quarterfinal matchup with Texas Tech at the Orange Bowl!

Oregon rolled to a 51–34 victory over visiting James Madison in the CFP first round, showcasing a potent offense that scored early and often.

By coach Dan Lanning’s standard, it wasn’t pretty in box-score nuance, but it was a decisive win. Oregon’s defense substituted heavily in the second half, after the Ducks’ starters held JMU to a 34-6 halftime score.

Oregon QB Dante Moore vs. Tech’s trademark defense is the early narrative.

Oregon’s offense can keep pace with anyone in the nation, but the defense’s ability to consistently get stops through all four quarters, that’s what determines the Ducks’ true CFP ceiling.

EUGENE — Call it Cinderella meets the Oregon machine! But, Duck fans, don’t be fooled. The JMU Dukes aren’t buying the fairy-tale underdog narrative in this first-round CFP matchup.

• JMU rolls into Autzen with a 12-1 record and an 11-game win streak.

• The Dukes’ culture is a product of CFP No. 1 Indiana coach Curt Cignetti.

• Bob Chesney picked up where Cignetti left off as head coach at JMU.

If you bleed green and yellow, you’re hyped, hopeful, and maybe a little wary. The Dukes score 37.3 points per game, averaging 448.3 yards. The JMU offense is balanced, and the defense held opponents to 15.8 points per game.

Granted, Oregon’s Big Ten schedule is a different level than the competition JMU encountered in the Sun Belt. Still, given an opportunity, the Duke’s mindset will be that their regular-season success is carrying over to the playoffs. Better for Oregon to dominate start to finish.

We know Oregon has the talent, the speed, the ability to break explosive plays. JMU brings discipline and confidence that Oregon will have to match. Their QB, Alonza Barnett III is a dual-threat gunner who can bend a defense:

• 2,533 pass yards.

• 21 pass TDs.

• 14 rush TDs.

Oregon’s 2025 win at Husky Stadium was also the final regular-season game with the Ducks for coordinators Tosh Lupoi (DC) and Will Stein (OC). Lupoi has since accepted a five-year deal as head coach at Cal, and Stein accepted the head coach position at Kentucky.

Lanning confirmed that both will remain with Oregon through this year’s playoffs before moving into their new roles. Not quite ideal to rely on coordinators with one foot out the door, but any conflicts of interest are vastly reduced by Cal and Kentucky already being in their offseasons:

SEATTLE — Husky Hate Week is one of my favorite times of the year! The nastiest rivalry west of the Rockies is personal, and it stays personal, even in the Big Ten.

The worst-kept secrets of late November:

1. I’d eat Thanksgiving dinner once a week, year-round.

2. If I could only see one Oregon game per year, it would be UW.

OSU and that in-state Little Brother game? The Beavs have been nationally irrelevant for nearly three decades since Dennis Erickson bounced after the 2000 season with the Fiesta Bowl trophy and no forwarding address. The Beavers have been chasing ghosts ever since.

But Oregon-Washington? In years like this one? Playoff seeding, a conference win, and rivalry bragging rights all on the line. It’s a little slice of college football heaven!

Duck Nation hasn’t forgotten the gut-punch losses to Washington in recent years. A chance for another serving of revenge, another round of redemption, and a chance to kick the Huskies down the Big Ten standings. Expect bad blood, gadget plays, and soggy weather.
