EUGENE — Dan Lanning is done talking about USC’s catastrophically failed Lincoln Riley experiment, now an abysmal 5-15 against ranked opponents.
Oregon snatched a 41-27 victory from the second-quarter wreckage at the Coliseum on Saturday. The Ducks regrouped after QB1 Dante Moore left the game with a concussion. And Lanning left Riley’s dumpster fire blazing in Los Angeles.
But while USC boosters talk openly this week about raising cash to bankroll Riley’s $70 million buyout, Lanning closed the book on Wednesday with cold precision: “I’m done talking about this game, guys. Let’s move to the next game.”
That’s how championship legacies are built. Lanning posts his third straight win over USC and moves on to the next battle; Riley awkwardly waits to get rug-pulled.
Now sitting at 3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, No. 15 Oregon can’t afford a hangover. No. 23 UCLA arrives at Autzen Stadium on Oct. 10 riding a 4-0 record and powered by tailback Wayne Knight, who already has 445 rushing yards and 9 TDs.
