STILLWATER — Let’s call Saturday what it was: An absolute meltdown. The beating Oregon absorbed at Oklahoma State was the first loss to an unranked team in the Dan Lanning era. Two clutch first-half interceptions helped make the 39-31 defeat look more respectable. But that game was a complete systems failure that exposed a soft underbelly many feared was lurking beneath the hype.
Casual fans, we tried to warn you. All your rose-colored delusions: “Boise State is just THAT good,” and “it’s a long season,” and “polls don’t matter.”
Dropping from AP No. 2 to No. 21 in a span of eight days does matter. Through two games, Oregon is trending the wrong direction. It absolutely means Oregon isn’t living up to its potential, or its hype. And that wasn’t a momentary fluke on Saturday in Stillwater. Oregon’s 2026 flaws have been glaring since the first possession of the Boise State game.
Since Game 1, it’s been all over social media, the podcasts, and on the lips of corporate media talking heads. The Gang Green OGs saw it. Guys who’ve coached at any level anywhere saw it. And we tried to warn you about all your excuses after Oregon’s one-score escape vs. unranked Boise State.
